Scalloped Potatoes with Ham

Scalloped Potatoes and Ham is a delicious country potato bake that has just the right amount of flavor with a great way to use left over ham. A perfect side dish, these casserole looks beautiful in presentation and tastes deliciously cheesy.

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup frozen corn keep frozen or thaw
  • 2 cups chopped ham
  • 2 lbs potatoes washed and sliced into 1/4" rounds
  • 2 cups shredded cheese


  • Grease casserole dish or square baking pan and set aside.
  • In a skillet, add butter, onion and garlic and heat over medium heat for 3-5 minutes or until onions are soft. add flour, spices and milk.
  • Whisk and cook over medium high heat until thick and bubbly, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in frozen ham and heat an additional 2 minutes or until corn is heated through. Remove from heat.
  • Preheat oven to 350 and line bottom of prepared baking dish with a layer of potatoes.
  • Add half of the corn mixture on top of the potatoes and half of the ham.
  • Repeat with another layer of potatoes, corn mixture and ham. Top with a third layer of potatoes. Top with cheese.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45-60 minutes or until center is heated through.
  • Let set 5 minutes before serving.


I used a 2.5qt baking dish but you can easily use a square baking pan as well.
