Instructions
In your crock pot, add 12 oz. chocolate chips, 3 cups milk, 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 12 oz. evaporated milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Stir the mixture well to ensure all the ingredients are combined.
Set your crock pot to low heat. Allow the hot chocolate mixture to heat for 3 hours, stirring every hour to help the chocolate chips melt evenly and prevent burning.
Once the hot chocolate is hot and the chocolate has fully melted, ladle the cocoa into mugs. If using a punch ladle for serving, tilt it slightly to ensure a smooth pour and avoid spills. Top each serving with marshmallows and a dollop of whipped cream for an added touch of sweetness.
Notes
Milk chocolate vs dark chocolate: It is important to note that if you use dark chocolate, it can take longer to melt. Because it has more cacao in it, you have to increase the time often up to 2 hours. If you punch it to high on the crockpot, you risk burning your chocolate without monitoring. Dark chocolate may need 4-5 hours of low melt time.Chocolate Chips: You can choose milk, dark, or semi-sweet chocolate chips based on your preference. Semi-sweet chips are recommended for a classic flavor that's generally appealing. Milk chocolate is recommended for the best sweetness. Favorite toppings - Marshmallows, whipped cream, caramel, candy cane stir sticks.
