Easy apple fritters recipe with cinnamon batter, fried up, and then dusted in cinnamon sugar. Apples are best served warm - a great alternative to other apple desserts that take much longer.
fresh granny smith applestypically 2-3 lunch sized apples
vegetable oil
Fritter Batter
1/2cupall purpose flour
2teaspoonsgranulated sugar
1teaspoonground cinnamon
1/2cupmilk
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
1/2cupgranulated sugar
2teaspoonsground cinnamon
Instructions
Combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar with two teaspoons of ground cinnamon in a shallow dish and set aside.
Fill a skillet with vegetable oil to about 1 inch deep and heat it over medium-high.
Cut 2-3 fresh Granny Smith apples into 1/4-inch rounds. Be careful not to slice them too thick, as they'll take longer to cook. Remove the cores using an apple corer or a makeshift tool like the cap from a milk jug.
In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, two teaspoons granulated sugar, and one teaspoon ground cinnamon. Gradually add 1/2 cup of milk, stirring until the batter is smooth. You may not need all of the milk. Adjust the milk as needed batter should not be too runny, but enough to coat the apple slices well.
Dip each apple slice into the batter, covering both sides thoroughly. Gently lay the slices in the hot oil and fry them for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until they're golden brown and crispy.
Use tongs to remove the apple fritters from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. While they're still warm, dredge each slice in the cinnamon sugar coating. Serve immediately.
