Thinly sliced apples smothered in a light batter and dusted with cinnamon sugar is the easy apple fritters recipe you remember from childhood.

Often referred to as “apple cinnamon donuts” or “appleflappen,” these apple slices go from fresh to fried in about 10 minutes, making this after-school snack as easy as apple pie.

easy apple fritter recipe.

Ingredients

  • Granny Smith apples (2-3 small apples or enough for 10-12 slices)
  • Batter: all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, milk
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating: granulated sugar, ground cinnamon

What size apples to use

You can use any size of apples you want, depending on the number of slices you want to get out of this dish.

You may need to add extra batter for super-large apples. In the case of the green apples below, we used lunchbox-size apples.

Easy Apple Fritters Recipe

Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Coating: Mix 1/2 cup granulated sugar and two teaspoons of ground cinnamon in a shallow dish. Set aside.

Heat Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a skillet to a depth of about 1 inch. Heat over medium-high heat.

Prepare Apples: Slice 2-3 fresh Granny Smith apples into 1/4-inch rounds. If you cut them too thick, they won’t cook as quickly. Use an apple corer or a suitable substitute like a milk jug cap to remove the cores.

Make the Batter: In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, two teaspoons granulated sugar, and one teaspoon ground cinnamon.

Gradually add 1/2 cup milk and stir until a smooth batter is formed. Adjust the milk quantity if necessary to achieve the right consistency. The batter should not be too thin or too thick. You should be able to dip and coat slices evenly and easily. See the image for a demonstration.

Dip each green apple slice into the batter, ensuring both sides are well coated.
