Get tender, juicy beef cube steak with this easy crock pot recipe. This easy savory weeknight sensation is a family dinner pleaser and after slow cooking, can be easily served over potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Put sliced onions and cooking oil into a large skillet. Set it over medium heat and let the onions sizzle! Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
Season Steaks: While onions are cooking, grab cubed steaks. Season cube steak with garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
Add flour to a shallow dish and dip each beef steak into flour so they get a light coating on both sides.
Slide cube steaks into the skillet with the oil. Let them get a nice brown crust on each side (2-3 mins per side). Don’t worry about cooking them through yet!
Lift the steaks out of the pan (tongs make this easy) and place them into the bottom of the slow cooker. Keep those onions sizzling in the pan until they're soft and brown.
Making the Gravy
Mix Up Soup: In a bowl, empty the can of cream of mushroom soup. Use that empty soup can to add two cans of water to the bowl.
Toss in the packet of au jus seasoning package and whisk.
Drizzle the soupy mixture over the cubed steaks in the slow cooker. Now add finished onions directly on top.
Slow Cooking Instructions
Cook Slowly: Put the lid on your slow cooker. Set it to high for a quick cook (3-4 hrs) or low for (6-8 hrs).
Once done, remove tender cubed steak, place it on a plate over rice , noodles or mashed potatoes and drizzle with as much homemade gravy as you want.
Notes
This slow cooker recipe pairs great with lighter sides like roasted or air-fried vegetables. Instead of water, you can get a richer flavor by using beef broth.
