  • Fresh strawberries, washed, tops removed, cut in half, and dried thoroughly
  • Chocolate cream sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • Chocolate chips
  • Candy eyes
  • Fresh mint leaves, washed and dried

How to Make Strawberry Ladybugs

Step 1: Set up your cookies. Arrange your chocolate cream sandwich cookies on a cutting board or baking sheet. These are the base of each ladybug, so space them out with enough room to work.

Step 2: Melt the chocolate. Pour ½ cup of chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. Keep microwaving in 15-second bursts, stirring each time, until the chocolate is smooth and melted. Take your time with this step because going slowly helps prevent scorching.

Step 3: Dip and place the strawberries. Dip the flat (cut) end of each strawberry half into the melted chocolate, then place it onto a cookie, cut-side down. Press gently so it adheres. Add 2 candy eyes to the chocolate-dipped end while the chocolate is still wet. Repeat until all your ladybugs are assembled.

Step 4: Pipe the ladybug details. If your chocolate has started to thicken, reheat it in short bursts until fluid again. Spoon the melted chocolate into a resealable plastic bag, seal it, and snip a tiny corner off the tip. Pipe a thin line down the center of each strawberry to create the wing divide. Then add dots on each side to make the ladybug spots.

Step 5: Add the mint leaf wings. Pipe a small dot of chocolate onto the side of each ladybug and press a fresh mint leaf into it. This gives them that adorable little “wing” detail that makes them look complete.

Step 6: Set and serve. Let the ladybugs stand at room temperature until the chocolate is fully set, or refrigerate them to speed up the process. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until you’re ready to plate them.

Tips for the Best Strawberry Ladybugs

Dry your strawberries completely. Any moisture on the surface of the berry will cause the chocolate to seize or slide off. After washing, pat them dry and let them air out for a few minutes before dipping.

Choose similar-sized strawberries. If you pick through the container for berries that are roughly the same size, your finished ladybugs will look much more uniform on the platter.

Work in batches. Chocolate sets quickly, so dip a few strawberries, add the eyes, and get the candy eyes on before moving to the next group. Trying to do too many at once means your chocolate hardens before the eyes can stick.

The piping bag trick works with a zip-lock. You do not need any special equipment. A regular sandwich bag with the corner snipped off works perfectly as a piping bag for the details.

Make them a few hours ahead. These hold up beautifully in the fridge for several hours. Just cover them loosely with plastic wrap so the candy eyes don’t get smudged.

Spring Serving Ideas

Arrange your strawberry ladybugs on a long white platter with extra fresh mint for a garden-party look that photographs beautifully (bc everyone wants a cute instagram to share!).

They are also a great addition to an Easter dessert table with other spring treats, such as deviled egg chicks, Easter charcuterie board, or a spring fruit platter with ladybug caprese. For a kids’ party, you can set up a decorating station and let the kids pipe their own spots. It gets messy, but they absolutely love it.

How to Store Strawberry Ladybugs

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The Oreo base can soften slightly over time, so they’re at their best within the first day. If you’re making them for an event, same-day assembly is ideal, but a few hours ahead works perfectly fine.

Strawberry Ladybugs

Prep Time 20 minutes
Chill 10 minutes
These strawberry ladybugs are the no-bake spring treat everyone asks about. Fresh strawberries dipped in melted chocolate, set on an Oreo cookie base, and decorated with candy eyes, piped chocolate spots, and a fresh mint leaf wing — they look like they took hours and come together in about 20 minutes. Perfect for Easter dessert tables, spring parties, or any time you want something cute that also tastes amazing.

Ingredients

  • Fresh strawberries washed, tops removed, halved, and dried
  • Chocolate cream sandwich cookies
  • ½ cup chocolate chips plus more as needed
  • Candy eyes
  • Fresh mint leaves washed and dried

Instructions

  • Arrange cookies on a cutting board or baking sheet.
  • Microwave chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds and stir. Continue heating in 15-second increments, stirring between each, until completely melted and smooth.
  • Thoroughly dry strawberries before dipping because moisture prevents chocolate from adhering. Dip the cut end of each strawberry half into the melted chocolate and place onto a cookie. Add 2 candy eyes immediately. Repeat with remaining strawberries.
  • If needed, reheat chocolate until fluid. Transfer to a resealable plastic bag, seal, and snip a tiny corner off. Pipe a center line down each strawberry and add dots on each side for spots. Pipe a dot on the side of each ladybug and press in a mint leaf. Work in small batches so candy eyes stick before chocolate sets.
  • Let stand until chocolate is completely set, or refrigerate until set. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

serving size depends on how many you want, just add enough strawberries and cookies for how many you are making.
