Whether you are meal planning or simply picking out a recipe to make, its important to understand how to gauge if a recipe is a good fit for you.

  • Timing – Timing is important in picking out recipes as you cannot rush once you get started. If you are short on time, make sure you consider if you need to hit the store first, any defrosting time, marinating time, prep time like chopping and mixing, cooking time, and finally resting time. Use this to decide if you need a 30 minute recipe, no bake, or have the time to really put some kitchen love in!
  • Ease of Ingredients – Its always awesome to find a recipe that LOOKS delicious, but are the ingredients readily available? Seasonality and local availability can make a difference in what is needed or tend to substitutes.
  • Preparation – It’s always best to prep right the first time! Already pre-measured herbs, seasonings, oils, and even cut veggies make the meal that much easier to prepare. This also helps in recipe situations that require moving on to the next immediately.
  • Special Kitchen Equipment – Does the recipe call for special equipment – like a kitchen mixer, Air Fryer, Slow Cooker, Pressure cooker – ensure all equipment is on hand.
  • Ability to taste and tell – One of the most important parts of cooking is learning to taste and tell if it’s what YOU want. While following a recipe exactly usually has the best-case scenario for success, knowing what your family enjoys can make all the difference in a recipe. Me? I like to measure my garlic with love, not tablespoons.
