Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 1 package (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint oil (or extract)
  • 16 Andes Creme De Menthe Thins, chopped
  • While I think Andes Mint Chocolate candy (you can see what they are here on Amazon) is the best version for fudge, there really are a ton of mint candies that can work. Try this recipe with crushed mint Twix, Hershey bars, mint M&Ms or any candy you can find in the candy aisle.

How to Make Mint Chocolate Fudge

Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with aluminum foil, leaving a bit of overhang on the sides for easy removal later. Set it aside. This step ensures your fudge will pop out perfectly when it’s set!

In a medium saucepan, add the semi-sweet chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Heat the mixture over medium-low, stirring constantly to avoid burning the chocolate. Keep stirring until everything is smooth and fully melted. Once melted, remove the pan from the heat.

Stir in the peppermint oil or extract. Be careful not to overdo this part. A little bit of flavoring goes a long way.

Pour the chocolate mixture into your prepared pan, spreading it out evenly. Now, sprinkle the chopped Andes mint candies on top. If needed, gently press the candy pieces into the fudge so they stay put as it sets.

Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until the fudge is firm. If you’re in a rush, leave it overnight—this step is a great way to get ahead for a party or gathering.

Once the fudge has set, remove it from the fridge. Using the foil overhang, lift the fudge out of the pan. Peel away the foil and slice the fudge into small squares. It makes 20-24 squares, depending on how big you cut them.

Can I freeze this fudge?

Yes! You can freeze fudge for up to three months. Wrap each square individually in wax paper or plastic wrap and store in an airtight container. Let it thaw at room temperature for about an hour before serving.

What if I don’t have peppermint oil?

You can easily substitute peppermint extract for the oil in this recipe. Just remember that extracts are usually weaker than oils, so you may need to adjust the quantity to taste. Start with 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract if you make the switch.

Equipment

  • 8 x 8 pan
  • Foil

Ingredients

  • 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint oil
  • 16 Andes Creme De Menthe Thin Mints chopped

Instructions

  • Line an 8×8-inch pan with aluminum foil, leaving some overhang on the sides. This will make it easier to remove the fudge later.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Heat over medium-low, stirring constantly for about 5-7 minutes, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted. While it may be tempting, do not turn up the heat – chocolate burns easily. This is a low and slow process with stirring. The fudge will start to thicken like frosting. Remove from heat.
