This cottage cheese cookie dough recipe went viral on TikTok because it really works. You do not need to bake or use a blender, and each serving has about 10 to 12 grams of protein, depending on your protein powder.

You only need one bowl and six ingredients, and the result tastes surprisingly close to real cookie dough.

If you have tried creamed cottage cheese with honey before, you know how well cottage cheese blends into a sweet base. This recipe uses that same idea, but turns it into a cookie dough flavor. You can eat this right out of the bowl or make into balls.


Ingredients You’ll Need

Cottage Cheese: I used regular cottage cheese straight from the container. If you want a smoother texture without blending, use small curd cottage cheese.

Maple Syrup: This adds sweetness and helps loosen the dough so it comes together.

Vanilla Extract: This helps the dough taste more like cookie dough and less like protein powder.

Almond Flour: This gives the dough its structure. Be sure to use finely ground almond flour, not coarse almond meal.

Protein Powder: I used one scoop of vanilla protein powder (with the scoop that came in the container), which blended into the flavor best for me. Chocolate protein powder also works if you want a richer dessert flavor.

Mini Chocolate Chips: Mini chips spread more evenly through the dough and make each bite taste more like real cookie dough.

Add cottage cheese, maple syrup, and vanilla extract to a mixing bowl and stir well. Add almond flour and protein powder, then mix until a dough forms. Fold in the mini chocolate chips.

Before you start mixing, know that the dough will look much too dry at first. I thought I had made a mistake because it seemed like there was not enough liquid for all the almond flour and protein powder. Just keep mixing, and it will come together into a thick dough.

You can eat the cookie dough right away, chill the bowl until cold, or scoop the dough into bite-sized portions for easy snacks later.

Turn edible cookie dough into cookie dough balls: I used a tablespoon-sized cookie scoop and made about 22 to 24 cookie dough balls.

NOTE: You do not need a blender for this recipe. Many versions suggest blending the cottage cheese until smooth, but you can skip that step and it will still work. As you mix, the curds blend into the dough, and chilling helps the texture come together. If you want a smoother dough, you can blend it, but it is not necessary.

Texture Notes Before You Make It

This dough is thicker and more filling than regular cookie dough, especially after chilling. The almond flour gives it a softer texture, more like protein dough or energy bites than bakery-style cookie dough.

You may also wonder if you can swap the almond flour for regular all-purpose flour. I would not recommend eating raw all-purpose flour in no-bake cookie dough because raw flour can carry bacteria unless it has been heat treated first.

Protein Powder Matters

Different brands of protein powder absorb moisture in different ways. If your dough still feels too dry after mixing, add another spoonful of cottage cheese or a little more maple syrup. If it is too wet, add a bit more almond flour.


Store covered in the refrigerator for several days. For easy grab-and-go snacks, keep the dough rolled into tablespoon-sized balls in an airtight container. You can wrap each one in a little bit of plastic wrap or parchment paper to keep from sticking to each other.

Can you bake this? No. This recipe is designed to be eaten raw and is not formulated for baking. The ingredient ratios and moisture content will not produce a baked cookie.

Ingredients
 

  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups finely ground almond flour
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Add cottage cheese, maple syrup, and vanilla extract to a mixing bowl and stir until combined. The cottage cheese curds do not need to be blended smooth. As you mix, use the back of your spoon to press any larger curds into the mixture.
  • Add almond flour and protein powder and continue mixing until a thick dough forms. The dough will look too dry at first. Keep mixing. It does come together. Fold in the mini chocolate chips.
  • Eat immediately by the spoonful, or cover and refrigerate. For the best texture and flavor, chill for at least 30 minutes before eating. The dough firms up significantly and tastes much more like actual edible cookie dough once cold. To make cookie dough balls, use a tablespoon-sized cookie scoop and roll into balls. Store covered in the refrigerator. Makes 22 to 24 balls.
  • If your dough is too dry after mixing, add a small spoonful of cottage cheese. If it feels too wet, sprinkle in a little extra almond flour. This is normal variation between protein powder brands.
