Homemade Waffles

While I am a big fan of frozen waffles for ease in the morning, its actually incredibly simple to make homemade waffles.
Great when you want to eat breakfast for dinner, works perfectly when you are out of boxed mix, and doubles as a simple camping recipe.
You won’t believe how simple it is to make waffle batter from pantry ingredients.
Important note about making waffles from scratch:
The most challenging thing about making waffles is putting enough, and not too much batter into the iron. I use 1/2 cup of batter for each square, but if you have a manual for a specific waffle iron, it may tell you how much batter you require.
My iron also says not to use cooking spray, but rather vegetable oil and you oil it before each addition of batter.
Waffle Batter Ingredients:
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1-3/4 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- vegetable oil
- maple syrup for serving
How to make homemade waffles using pantry ingredients.
Most waffle irons need to preheat for 5-10 minutes. Turn on waffle iron before creating batter. Most waffle irons have a red indicator light letting you know its done preheating.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together two eggs, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, 1-3/4 cups of milk, and two tablespoons of granulated sugar until well combined.
- Gradually add 2 cups of all-purpose flour, four teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the egg mixture. Stir until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
- Preheat your waffle iron. Once hot, lightly grease it with a small amount of vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
- Pour the batter onto the center of the waffle iron, using the amount recommended by your waffle maker’s instructions. Close the lid and cook until the waffle is golden and crisp.
- Carefully remove the cooked waffle and place it on a serving plate. Repeat the process with the remaining batter until you have made all ten waffles.
- Serve the warm waffles with a generous drizzle of maple syrup or whipped cream.
