Easy Oven Baked Rice Recipe
Where did this rice dish recipe originate?
We saw this recipe on TikTok by the creator, @lifeofafarmerswife. You can see the entire video below on oven-fried rice. As a note, this isn’t a traditional fried rice recipe with bits of veggies and eggs.
This variation allows for a quick and easy oven side dish that doesn’t need you standing there and monitoring.
Our opinions after testing out this TikTok recipe: Despite the amount of soy sauce and onion soup packet, it was relatively bland and needs additions to be perfect.
Overall the recipe worked and would be fine as a side while making other dinner dishes. Our professional opinion is to consider it a base recipe that needs additional vegetables to reach its full potential. See the original video below:

In a 9×13 baking dish, combine 2 cups white rice, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1/4 cup soy sauce, one envelope of dry onion soup mix, and 4 cups water.
Mix these ingredients well to ensure the flavors meld together.
Bake the rice mixture, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Check to see if rice is tender and water is absorbed.

Once baked, garnish the rice with chopped, fresh parsley.
Commonly Asked Rice Questions
Is it necessary to rinse the rice before baking?
Rinsing the rice can remove excess starch and prevent the dish from becoming too sticky.
However, for this particular recipe, it’s optional since the baking process allows the rice to absorb the flavors and liquids evenly.
How do I store leftovers, and how long will they last?
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven until heated, adding liquid if necessary.
Tips for Rice Dishes
- Substitute half of the water for beef broth.
- Near the end of cooking, cover the top with aluminum foil to prevent too much crisp forming on the top layer. Even if crisp forms, mixing the top and the underneath together creates a nice balance.
Oven Fried Rice (Lipton Mix)
Equipment
- 9 x 13 Casserole Dish
Ingredients
- 2 cups white rice not instant or minute rice "15 min to cook rice"
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup soy sauce can use less if preferred, based on taste.6
- 1 envelope dry onion soup mix
- 4 cups water
- Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Start by setting your oven to 375°F (190°C), ensuring it's ready for baking.
- Combine Ingredients: In a 9×13 inch baking dish, combine the white rice, vegetable oil, soy sauce, dry onion soup mix, and water. Stir the mixture well to ensure all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Initial Baking: Place your dish in the oven, uncovered, and bake for about 30 minutes. At this point, it's a good idea to check the rice. If you notice that the liquid has been fully absorbed, the rice is ready and can be taken out of the oven. For a Crispy Top Layer: If you prefer your rice with a crispy top, continue baking for up to 45 minutes in total. This extended baking time encourages a deliciously crispy layer to form on top, while the rice beneath remains soft and fluffy. Before Serving: Should you opt for the crispy top, once baking is complete, take a moment to mix and fluff the rice. This helps to evenly distribute the crispy bits throughout the rice, ensuring each bite is a perfect blend of textures.
- Garnish and Serve: Once removed from the oven, let the dish cool slightly and fluff rice. Before serving, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
