Everyone needs a fallback middle-of-the-week dish that is little hassle and family friendly. This creamy slow cooker chicken recipe is just that. Dive into a dump-and-go meal with all the hearty comfort food of grandma’s table but without all the work.
There is nothing more delicious than the basics. While I love a restaurant-quality meal, I don’t always love spending two hours in the kitchen. Like most slow cooker recipes, this dish is incredibly uncomplicated and hits all the points people love—quick, easy, simple ingredients and filling.
While our slow cooker chicken with gravy (which also includes noodles) recipe shares some similar ingredients, it’s totally different on the taste scale. With altered seasonings and the addition of cream cheese, you can expect a dish much more rich in flavor and super creamy.
Ingredients
- cream of chicken soup
- chicken broth
- dry Italian dressing mix
- dry ranch dressing mix
- chicken breast, cut into 2″ chunks/strips
- cream cheese, softened and cut into cubes
- egg noodles, cooked and kept warm
How to make Creamy Chicken in the Slow Cooker
- In a slow cooker, combine 1 can (10.5 oz) of cream of chicken soup, 1 cup of chicken broth, 1 tablespoon of dry Italian dressing mix, and 1 tablespoon of dry ranch dressing mix. Stir these ingredients together until well mixed.
- Add 1-1/2 lbs of chicken breast, cut into 2″ chunks or strips, to the chicken soup mixture in the slow cooker.
- Stir well to ensure the chicken is evenly coated with the sauce mixture.
- Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low heat for 6-8 hours or on high heat for 3-4 hours, depending on your schedule.
- Approximately 30 min. before the cooking time is done, use two forks to shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker. As a note, you can also leave the chicken in full breasts or strips if you prefer to serve it that way. Just remove the chicken with tongs and set aside before proceeding to next step.
- Add 1 brick (8 oz) of softened cream cheese, cut into cubes, to the slow cooker. Stir well to fully integrate the cream cheese.
- Now stir in 8 oz of cooked and warmed egg noodles until they are coated. If you took the chicken out to leave it as breasts, add back in at that step.
- Serve the creamy chicken and noodles (a bowl works best) immediately.
What sides go with Creamy Chicken and Noodles?
Pasta dishes like this tend to be super filling on their own so I rarely (personally) serve with a side. If I have an extra hungry crowd, this dish deserves a side of veggies like green beans or broccoli and a piece of garlic bread.
