Why You’ll Love This Homemade Salad Dressing

We always make our own dressing. Unless it’s something specific like French dressing or used as an ingredient in a recipe, bottled dressings just don’t cut it for us.

  • Incredible Dill Flavor: The star of this recipe, dill, adds a fresh, herby punch.
  • Adjustable Consistency: Whether you prefer it thick or a little runnier, this dressing is easy to customize.
  • Versatile: Ideal for salads, but it also pairs well with grilled vegetables or as a light sauce for salmon.

Ingredients (Makes 1 1/2 cups)

  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried dill weed
  • 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup buttermilk
seasonings for salad dressing laid out.

Tips and Tricks

  • If you prefer a thicker salad dressing, use less buttermilk. For a thinner dressing, add a little more buttermilk until it reaches your desired consistency.
  • You can easily swap sour cream for mayonnaise, Greek yogurt, or a combination of both.
  • Add a little lemon juice and zest for brightness, mix in a bit of Dijon mustard for tang, or a little hint of garlic for a garlic dill dressing.

Can Fresh Herbs Be Used?

Yes, fresh herbs can be used in a dill salad dressing! When substituting for dried herbs, use three times the amount of fresh herbs.

While fresh herbs add great flavor, it’s often more convenient to use dried herbs from your pantry (like we do for this dried dill dip mix).
