If you’re a fan of my simple but delicious cucumber dip recipe, you’ll appreciate the convenience of having this pantry seasoning dill dip mix ready to go. Made in bulk and stored in a jar, this is a time-saving and delicious addition to your pantry spices.
Why I love Homemade Spice Blends
I am one of those so called “ingredient moms.” I grew up with dinner being cooked pretty much every night (except for the occasional tv dinner). As a result, I have always done the same. I make a main dish, side dish, and bread pretty much 5 nights a week. But when it comes to lunch, unless I am eating cucumber salad, I am really bad at taking the time to feed myself.
This pantry seasoning recipe really helps that. I can prep ahead (and yes, with all the right ingredients) and then when I want to whip up something tasty and easy, I can create dip and grab a few sliced vegetables for a guilt free lunch.
Dill Dip Mix Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup dried parsley
- 1/4 cup minced onion
- 1/3 cup dry dill weed
- One teaspoon of seasoned salt ( I use Lawry’s)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
This recipe makes about 1 cup of dried pantry seasoning. You’ll then need 1/4 cup of the premade mix to make dip.
To Prepare the Pantry Seasoning Mix:
Combine dried parsley, minced onion, dill weed, seasoned salt, and black pepper. Store the mixture in an airtight jar in your pantry. If properly sealed and kept in a dry area, it can last for 4-6 months, but I typically use it before then.
To turn seasoning into a dip
There are several ways to take your dried seasoning and turn it into dip. You need 1/4 cup of mix with one of the following options:
- 1/2 cup sour cream + 1/2 cup real mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt + 1/2 cup real mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt + 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup of whipped cream cheese and 1/2 cup of real mayonnaise
Combine, cover, and refrigerate for at least four hours to allow the flavors to meld and the minced onions to soften. Stir well before serving with your choice of dippers.
If you want to add a little freshness to the dip, add a bit of minced garlic or chopped pickles right before serving.
What dippers go best with this dip?
Aside from this dip being one of the best things to do with cucumbers, Dill dip goes great with other fresh vegetables (like sliced celery, carrot sticks, and colorful bell peppers), salty potato chips, or a spread on sandwiches and wraps.
