Ingredients
- Feta cheese
- One egg
- Everything bagel seasoning:
- Chopped fresh parsley
- One flour tortilla, warmed: The perfect base to serve your feta fried egg on.
Does feta cheese melt, you ask? Feta softens beautifully, making it the perfect crispy ‘ring’ to cradle your egg in the skillet.
How to make Feta Fried Eggs
Preheat your skillet: Start by heating a skillet over medium-high heat. Wait until it’s hot enough for cooking. Its important to use a nonstick pan so the egg easily slides out once cooked.
Add the feta cheese: Place a ring of feta cheese in the center of the skillet. This will melt and become creamy. You can use as little or as much as you like. Remember this is a strong flavored cheese.
- Notes: Normally, I would recommend an egg ring for the perfect fried egg, but in this case, you want the feta cheese to get large and crispy, so the circle it creates already acts like the egg ring.
Crack the egg: Carefully crack an egg into the center of the feta cheese ring. This ensures your egg cooks evenly and absorbs all the flavors.
Season: Generously sprinkle everything bagel seasoning over the egg. This will give it a fantastic crust and flavor.
Cover and cook: Place a lid on the skillet and let it cook for 2-3 minutes. This will ensure the cheese gets a nice brown while the egg cooks to your desired doneness.
If the egg appears to be burning, turn the skillet down a bit.
Serve: Slide the feta fried egg onto a warm flour tortilla once the egg is cooked and the cheese is browned. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a fresh, vibrant finish.
Enjoy your delicious Feta Fried Egg, a simple yet flavorful dish that will start your day right!
Questions about Feta and Eggs
Does feta cheese melt? Feta cheese softens but doesn’t melt completely, making it ideal for creating a delicious and creamy base for your fried egg.
What is feta cheese? Feta is a brined white cheese from Greece, known for its tangy and slightly salty taste.
Feta is recognized for its tangy and somewhat salty taste and crumbly yet creamy texture. It’s made primarily from sheep’s milk or a mixture of sheep and goat’s milk.
Substitute for feta cheese? If you’re out of feta, goat cheese or ricotta can serve as great substitutes, offering a similar creamy texture and taste profile. That being said, we have not tested it out with fried eggs, and while it will provide great taste, it may not produce the same crispy exterior.
Other seasonings that go well with feta cheese are oregano, thyme, and dill, which are complementary, enhancing the cheese’s natural flavors without overpowering it.
Also, try eggs with smoked paprika, chili flakes, truffle salt, or Za’atar.

@graceelkus 5-minute feta fried eggs: you’ll thank me next time you’re hangry 🍳 Inpired by Ali Slagle’s potato, egg, and cheese tacos 🧀 Heat small nonstick skillet over medium heat. Crumble in feta around perimeter. Crack egg into center; season w/ black pepper & red pepper flakes (no need to add salt, the feta is plenty salty) Cover pan and cook until white is set, yolk is still runny, and cheese is unbelievably crispy. Serve atop toast, w/ hash browns, or my personal fave: in a charred tortilla with avocado & lime. You can oil the skillet, esp. if you’re not using nonstick, but I find the cheese gets crispier w/o More tips on my IG @graceelkus #friedeggs #feta

Equipment
- nonstick skillet
Ingredients
- Feta cheese
- One egg
- Everything bagel seasoning:
- Chopped fresh parsley
- One flour tortilla warmed: The perfect base to serve your feta fried egg on.
Instructions
- Preheat your skillet: Start by heating a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Wait until it's hot enough for cooking.
- Add the feta cheese: Place a ring of crumbled feta cheese in the center of the skillet. The ring does not have to be perfect. Use as little or as much as you want but pay attention that the center isnt too large. The egg needs to fit right in the middle and connect with the inner ring of the feta.
- Crack the egg: Carefully crack an egg into the center of the feta cheese ring.
- Season: Generously sprinkle everything bagel seasoning over the egg. You can also test out other seasonings like smoked paprika, but be careful not to add salt. Feta is already a salty cheese.
- Cover and cook: Place a lid on the skillet and let it cook for 2-3 minutes. This will ensure the cheese gets a nice brown while the egg cooks to your desired doneness.
- Serve: Slide the feta fried egg onto a warm flour tortilla or serve over hashbrowns once the egg is cooked and the cheese is browned. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a fresh, vibrant finish.
