I made these for my daughter’s birthday party and served them to her friends, which is probably the most honest test there is. They’re sweet and lightly flavored, not overpowering, and definitely candy-like rather than dessert-heavy.

  • 1 brick (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 16 oz powdered sugar
  • Granulated sugar, for rolling

How to Make Jello Candy Melts

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Add the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar to a mixing bowl. Beat well until fully combined, stopping halfway through to scrape down the sides and make sure all the sugar is incorporated.

Divide the mixture evenly into four separate bowls, or however many bowls you need based on the number of jello flavors you’re using.

Add 1 tablespoon of jello powder to each bowl and mix well until fully blended and evenly colored.

Shape the mixture into about 1-inch portions. Instead of rolling the balls first and then dredging them in sugar, I found it easier to drop each portion directly into the granulated sugar, coat it, then shape it into a ball.

Place each ball onto the prepared baking sheet and gently press your thumb into the center to create a small indentation.

Repeat until all of the candy melts are shaped. Let them sit at room temperature to firm slightly before serving.

What to Expect

These candy melts are soft and sweet with a light fruit flavor. They aren’t chewy like gummies and don’t harden into a shell. Think more along the lines of a sugar-dusted cream cheese candy that melts as you eat it.

They firm slightly at room temp but stay soft and should be refrigerated after.

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 16 oz powdered sugar
  • Granulated sugar for rolling
  • 4 Jello flavors of your choice kept dry and powdered

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside so it’s ready once the candy melts are shaped.
  • Add the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar to a mixing bowl. Beat until fully combined and smooth, stopping halfway to scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl so all of the sugar is incorporated evenly.
  • Divide the mixture evenly into four small bowls, or into as many bowls as needed based on how many Jello flavors you are using.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of dry Jello powder to each bowl. Mix well until the color and flavor are evenly distributed. The mixture will be soft and slightly sticky at this stage.
  • Scoop out about 1 tablespoon portions of the mixture. Instead of rolling first, drop each portion directly into a bowl of granulated sugar. Coat it lightly, then shape it into a ball once it’s no longer sticky.
  • Place each coated ball onto the prepared baking sheet. Gently press your thumb into the center of each one to create a small indentation, similar to a soft candy melt shape.
  • Repeat with the remaining mixture. Let the candy melts sit at room temperature for a short time to firm slightly before serving. Store leftovers in fridge.
