Avocado Crisps Recipe
Ingredients:
- Fresh Avocado
- All-Purpose Flour
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- Coarse Sea Salt (optional for chips)
How to make Baked Avocado Chips
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Prepare the Dough:
In a small bowl, mash half an avocado well with a fork until smooth.
Add 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt to the mashed avocado. Mix well until a dough forms. It might feel a bit tough at first, but keep mixing, and it will come together without needing to add any liquid.
Roll and Cut the Dough:
Lightly flour a flat surface or cutting board. Knead the dough a few times to bring it together.
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out to 1/8″ thickness. With a pastry cutter or knife, cut the dough into cracker-sized pieces.
Baking:
Place the cracker pieces on a baking sheet.
If you like, sprinkle coarse sea salt over the crackers for added flavor.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes for a cracker-like texture or 15 minutes for a crispier chip-like texture.
After baking, remove the crisps from the oven and let them cool completely on the pan. This will help them crisp up further.
Customization and Tips:
- For a flavor twist, consider adding your favorite seasonings, like everything bagel seasoning or sea salt, to the dough before baking.
- These crackers pair wonderfully with dips (use gauc!) or can add a crunch to your salads.
Avocado Pasta Alternative:
With a simple adjustment, the same dough can be transformed into a soft, dumpling-like avocado pasta. Boil the shaped dough instead of baking (we did for 3 minutes), and serve with your favorite pasta sauce for a comforting meal.
Remember that this is more of a dumpling dough than a hard version of original pasta as its made with avocado. Like regular pasta recipes, it wont have hoards of flavor, but is still worth a try with a sauce based meal like Gigi Hadid sauce.
Baked Avocado Chips
Equipment
- Rolling Pin
- Pastry Wheel Cutter
Ingredients
- 1/2 of a fresh avocado
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Make sure your oven is ready by setting it to 400°F (200°C).
- Mash Avocado: In a small bowl, thoroughly mash 1/2 of a fresh avocado until it's smooth.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: To your mashed avocado, add 1/3 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir everything until you have a consistent dough. It might feel tough at first, but keep mixing without adding any liquid. It'll eventually become more manageable.
- Knead and Roll: Sprinkle a little flour on a flat surface or cutting board. Give the dough a few good kneads, then roll it out to about 1/8-inch thickness with a rolling pin.
- Shape Crackers: Get creative and cut the dough into cracker-sized pieces using a pastry cutter or knife.
- Bake: Lay the cracker pieces on a baking sheet. If you'd like, sprinkle some coarse sea salt on top for extra flavor. Bake in your preheated oven for 10 minutes for crunchy crackers or extend to 15 minutes for an extra crispy texture, similar to chips.
- Cool Down: Once baked, take the crackers out of the oven and let them cool off completely. This is key for that perfect crunch.
Notes
- Avocado Consistency: Ensure your avocado is ripe for easy mashing. A smooth, creamy texture is key for the dough’s consistency.
- Dough Thickness: When rolling out the dough, aim for an even thickness to ensure uniform baking. Thinner crackers will be crisper, while thicker ones will be more bread-like. This also may change the cooking time needed.
- Oven Watch: Keep an eye on the oven during the last few minutes of baking, as the thin crackers can quickly go from perfectly golden to overdone.
