Our thoughts on the Slow Cooker Cinnamon Rolls cooking time

As always, we test out recipes to compare them to the original TikTok.

I cooked mine for 3 hours. I set it for two and dug around in the center, and it was still a little doughy at the 2-hour mark. I cooked it for 30 minutes more, checked it, and then 30 after that.

It seemed to be good after 3 hours. As with all recipes, this will be primarily affected by the size of the rolls and your crock pot, so allow for three and be happy if it is done sooner. Let’s get started!

Slow Cooker Apple Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

  • Apple Pie Filling

  • Ground Cinnamon

How to make Apple Cinnamon Rolls in Crockpot

Prepare the Slow Cooker: Spread 1 can of apple pie filling evenly into the bottom of the slow cooker.

Prepare the cinnamon rolls: Cut the cinnamon roll dough into quarters. Break apart the layers and sprinkle them into the slow cooker over the apple pie filling.

Add heavy cream and a layer of filling: Top the cinnamon rolls with the remaining can of apple pie filling.

Slow-cook the cinnamon rolls: Cover the slow cooker.

Cook on high for 2-3 hours, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean and the cinnamon rolls in the center are fully cooked.

Important: Any time you cook any dough in a slow cooker, it is imperative that you leave the lid on. If you remove the lid to “peek,” it releases the built-up heat and takes that much longer to cook. This happens with any type of roll in a slow cooker, even chicken and dumplings! DO NOT LIFT THE LID.

Cool and Serve: Allow the cinnamon rolls to cool in the slow cooker until warm. Serve warm, topped with the icing provided with the refrigerated cinnamon rolls.

Tip for Pouring Store-Bought Icing:

  • Warm it up gently before pouring; slightly warm the icing. This can be done by placing the icing container in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes or microwaving it for a short time (about 10–20 seconds), but remove any metal lids or foil first.

⭐⭐Remember, you don’t want the icing too hot; just warm enough to pour easily. This method helps achieve a smooth, even coating.

Crockpot Apple Cinnamon Rolls (Pie Filling)

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 2 hours 30 minutes
Apple pie filling with cinnamon rolls smothered in brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla icing. Delicious breakfast that makes for a perfect lazy sunday morning, holiday, or potluck recipe. Make, eat, and rate!

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 cans apple pie filling 20 oz each
  • 2 tubes refrigerated cinnamon rolls 12.4 oz each, (8 rolls per tube)
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Prepare the Base: Spread a can of apple pie filling evenly at the bottom of your slow cooker.
  • Chop and Layer Cinnamon Rolls: Take each cinnamon roll, cut it into quarters, and separate each layer. Sprinkle these pieces over the apple pie filling in the slow cooker.
  • Add the Second Layer: Pour the second can of apple pie filling over the cinnamon roll pieces.
  • Mix in Cream: Pour heavy whipping cream over the top and gently mix to combine everything together.
  • Sweet Topping: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture over the contents in the slow cooker.
  • Cook Time: Cover your slow cooker and set it to cook on high for about 2 to 3 hours. You'll know it's done when a knife inserted into the center comes out clean, and the cinnamon rolls in the center are fully cooked. (Note: It might take up to 3 hours, so check the doneness at the 2-hour mark and adjust cooking time accordingly.)
  • Cool and Serve: Let the dish stand to cool until it’s warm. Serve it warm, topped with the icing from the cinnamon rolls (see notes on icing).

Notes

Cooking Tips: Do not remove the lid from the crockpot for at least 2 hours. When you lift the lid, it releases heat and will take longer to cook. Check the center of the roll pieces for doneness at 2-hour mark. If not done, check every 30 minutes. It may take up to 3 hours (like ours did).
Tip for Store-Bought Icing: To make pouring easier, gently warm the icing. Either place the container in warm water for a few minutes or microwave it for 10-20 seconds after removing any metal lids or foil.
