There is no shortage of TikTok garlic bread recipes from people all over the internet opening up their kitchens.
And we have tried quite a few, but this one, THIS ONE, takes the cake, and it’s the cheesy garlic bread recipe you are looking for. Perfectly done with French bread, tons of garlic, and just the right amount of spices, the melty cheesy with a golden brown broil is good enough to eat as a meal on its own.
Unlike the crusty parmesan bread recipe we made in the past on our side dish site, where the focus was on the grated parmesan itself, this garlic bread recipe focuses more on the cheese and garlic and tastes quite a bit like a real cheese pizza.
The thing about bread recipes is that they can all vary just a bit and be just as good as one another in different ways. But this one….THIS CHEESY GARLIC BREAD is it. If you try no other tiktok garlic bread recipe, try this one.
And if you are feeling extra brave, eat it with the tiktok baked ziti with ricotta. Talk about a carb-loaded coma (in all the best ways)!!
Cheesy Garlic Bread
There is nothing better than pulling apart homemade, fresh-from-the-oven Cheesy Garlic Bread. If you’ve only had garlic bread in restaurants and never tried to make it on your own before, you have been missing out!
This Italian favorite is so simple to make that you’ll wonder why you are only just doing it now. Just slice your loaf lengthwise and smother it in the perfect ratio of olive oil, minced fresh garlic, fresh herbs, and of course, parmesan and mozzarella.
After baking, Cheesy Garlic Bread comes out so incredibly soft and gooey, with just the perfect amount of crispiness on the outside; you won’t be able to stop with just one piece.
What’s the best main dish to make Cheesy Garlic Bread with?
This ultimate Cheesy Garlic Bread pairs perfectly with pasta, of course. I also love dipping it in chilies and soups for a heartier meal. If you want to make a whole dinner out of a simple salad, pair it with Cheesy Garlic Bread.
Honestly, it’s harder to find a recipe you COULDN’T combine with this amazing bread!
What kind of bread can I use for Garlic Bread?
Italian and French bread are the most commonly used loaves to make Cheesy Garlic Bread, as their soft, chewy interior stays delicate even after baking. Texas toast and pretzel bread work wonderfully, too.
But you don’t have to stop there: this recipe is so versatile it can be used on all sorts of breads and is guaranteed to be a hit!
Make your next sandwich out-of-this-world simply by substituting regular sliced bread with Cheesy Garlic Bread. Or, impress the neighbors for your next game night by replacing boring bratwurst buns with Cheesy Garlic buns instead.
You can use any type of bread you would normally use, but the texture may differ from Italian or French breads, and you may have to cut back on the oil mixture for smaller slices or loaves.
Can I use different types of cheeses?
Sure! Changing up your cheeses is a great way to expand Cheesy Garlic Bread’s use beyond your typical Italian meal.
I’ve made Cheese Garlic Bread as a side for this Mexican-inspired Cheesy Beef and Tortilla Casserole by switching the mozzarella for cheddar and pepper jack cheeses and cotija for the parmesan.
Or, for a Mediterranean flavor, substitute feta in place of the mozzarella. Here are some other types of cheeses that you can use in place of mozzarella, just be sure any cheese you use is young (not aged) so it will melt:
- Colby Jack
- Camembert
- Gouda
- Monterey Jack
Can I use garlic powder or pre-minced garlic in place of fresh?
Honestly, I would advise against using anything but fresh minced garlic for this Cheesy Garlic Bread.
Dried, powdered, or jarred, your bread just won’t turn out the same if you use anything but fresh garlic.
Can I store and reheat Cheesy Garlic Bread?
Cheesy Garlic Bread should be frozen (not refrigerated) for later use, as refrigeration will dry it out. Wrap in aluminum foil and place in an airtight freezer bag, removing as much air as possible.
Your bread can be kept this way for up to 3 months.
Reheating Cheesy Garlic Bread is simple.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and transfer the sliced or whole bread (still wrapped in aluminum foil) to a baking sheet.
- Bake until warmed through, about 10 to 15 minutes.
Cheesy Garlic French Bread (TikTok)
Equipment
- sheet pan
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French Bread cut in half down the middle lengthwise
- 1/2 cup Olive Oil
- 3 tbsp. Grated Parmesan Cheese
- 3 tbsp. Fresh Minced Garlic
- 1 tbsp. Thyme
- 1 tbsp. Oregano dried
- 1/2 tbsp. Red Pepper Flakes
- 8 oz. Mozzarella cheese 1 bag should be fine
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees (and if you are like me, remove the pans first, haha)
- Cut French Bread lengthwise to create two halves.
- Combine olive oil, grated Parmesan cheese, and all spices into a bowl. Mix with a silicon basting brush.
- Spread olive oil mixture on both halves of the French bread, dividing evenly between them. The mixture will be thick with the minced garlic and grated cheese but divides fine. Take care to get around the edges and not concentrate just on the middle.
- Split an 8 oz. bag of Mozzarella Cheese between two French Bread halves. We use "Creamy Melt" cheese.
- Place bread in oven for 10 minutes.
- Change oven to broil and carefully move rack just below broil.
- Broil top of garlic bread for approximately 3 minutes, making sure to check to ensure no burning. Broil can move quickly and change depending on the oven, so do not walk off. We recommend checking every minute until done and rotating pan if needed. Broiling can be skilled but does provide the beautiful brown cheese on top of garlic bread.
