Patriotic appetizers are so much fun to make up throughout the year.

Perfect for July 4th, Memorial Day, Presidents Day and any other holiday that includes the red, white, and blue, you can get super create with your patriotic flag food displays. Now this recipe is less of a recipe and more of inspiration and guiding to help you learn how to create a perfect appetizer tray.

You can easily mix up your fruit, vegetable and cheese ideas and add what your family loves to eat the most and I have given several suggestions at the bottom of the article on which fruits and vegetables you can alter.

Making a striped flag tray is fairly straight forward, but it helps to have a variety of star shaped cookie cutters. You can not only shape out your cheese, but also give the illusion of stars by filling large cookie cutters with fruit as part of your flag.

Additionally you can use other patriotic shapes like cutting out the letters U.S.A and there are many cookie cutters for flags, eagles, and the continental US shape.

I am including some links below to check out the prices online so you can order a head of time for your appetizer tray design.

Place a small layer of blackberries in a tray.

Top with a star cookie cutter.

Fill in the remaining cookie cutter with blackberries.

Wash and dry strawberries and line them on the top of the tray. I like to leave the strawberries whole, but you could certainly cut them into slices.

Add a layer of star cut cheese below the strawberries.

Follow with a single line of raspberries.

Add a single line of white chocolate covered pretzels below the raspberries.

And end with a final row of strawberries.

Fruit trays are also awesome to serve with dips and I love to serve melted chocolate and this delicious marshmallow fruit dip with mine.

Its easy to set up a chocolate fondue pot with dipping sticks (chocolate goes with all fruits!) or simply serve with melting chocolate dips, usually found right near the strawberries in the store. If you choose to substitute fruits for veggies, this cucumber dip recipe goes perfectly with all veggies and is super simple to whip up.
