Perfect for breakfast and just as enjoyable for dinner, no side dishes are needed with this Ninja Foodi Breakfast Casserole recipe – easy, cheesy, and oh so hearty
Around here we eat a lot of breakfast…and not just in breakfast time.
We love breakfast for holidays and pot lucks but also straight up dinner. There is nothing more delicious for dinner than a cheesy sausage hash brown breakfast casserole. Its warm, filling, has protein, and carbs – flat out its delicious.
But I was wondering recently if I could take my recipe for this all time favorite breakfast casserole and convert it in the Ninja Foodi pressure cooker or air fryer.
I used the same exact tested recipe as the oven baked breakfast casserole version and tested prepping it in the pressure cooker and prepping in the air fryer.
Air Fryer Breakfast Casserole
✔ Ninja Foodi 6.5 quart ✔ Air Crisp Lid ✔ Filling Breakfast
Why the air fryer? Truthfully the pressure cooker didn’t translate well. Pressure cookers, one of top kitchen essential items to have, need water and this recipe simply doesn’t, so basically you cannot make breakfast casserole in a pressure cooker.
However, the air fryer worked pretty well for cooked eggs and a crispy top. The oven baked version is still my favorite way for a tried and true breakfast recipe, but this air fryer breakfast casserole was still really good and cooked. Just be prepared for some crispy top layer hash browns (which I personally love).
What side dish recipes go well with breakfast casserole? Creamy Slow Cooker Grits, Chocolate Chip Banana Bread for some sweet, and traditional sheet pan eggs.

What is the consistency of breakfast casserole?
Hash brown breakfast casseroles typically have a cheesy and slightly crunchy top. However, even in oven baked casseroles, the hash browns that are inside and below the surface are potatoes and not crunchy like skillet hash browns. They are cooked, but not crunchy.
Breakfast Casserole in the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer
Add uncooked ground sausage to ceramic inner pot.
Press Sauté and cook until sausage is browned, about 6-8 minutes.
Add frozen hash browns to pot with the cooked sausage and mix well.
Add 1 cup cheese and mix.
In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, heavy cream and spices together. Pour egg mixture into pot.
Close the Air Crisp lid on the Foodi and set to Air Crisp at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Check after 25 minutes to see if eggs are cooked through.
Place remaining 1 cup of cheese on top of casserole and close lid.
Heat will melt the cheese.
As this is a newer tested recipe, there is still room for improvement, so if you have try this and have feedback, I would love to hear it!

I made this with hot sausage and it was an instant hit! It did take about 10 minutes longer to cook the eggs, but I’m retesting that next time I make it. May just be my machine. Foodi 6.5 qt. I’ll take pictures next time!
Hey Charlotte! Thanks for coming back to let me know. Great variation with hot sausage, yum!!
I had the same problem. Eggs took a long time to cook completely.
Tasted great in my So Florida kitchen where it’s already hot! Everything turned out delish! No problems! Followed all directions as called for in the Foodi. Thanks!
Needs at least 10 extra minutes to cook
This recipe was kind of a fail for me. The eggs were runny even after an extra 10 minutes. I ended up pouring out some of the eggs and turning it to “Roast” at 375F for another 10-15 minutes. It tasted good but it needs to be tweaked.
Christy, def not something we want to hear and I am so sorry about that. I will retest again with both sizes of Ninja Foodi we have and see if there was something that went wrong. We have had a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews so I wasnt aware of something be wrong on this. Maybe its the egg size difference. Either way, Ill see if I can run it down again and try to be more specific so there are zero fails.
Trisha
I agree with the “Roast” for the add’l 10-15 minutes to set the eggs. Otherwise very good!!
This was delicious and turned out perfectly. I did cook it for 30 minutes and the eggs were “just right.” I’ve already pinned this recipe and will definitely be making this again in the future. Thank you for sharing!
Eggs were not cooked through with the air fryer, same as the other comments I switched to bake for 15 min to finish the cook. Next time I think I will just try to bake for 30 min, then switch to air fry for 5-7 at the end to crisp up the top hashbrowns.
