Charlotte and I are big fans of the fun on tiktok, from awesome craft ideas that we put out to our audience, to testing amazing ideas from other creators. A few months back mug cakes became all the rage – and why not? They are an instantaneous way to enjoy a little treat in typically a minute or so and pantry ingredients. When Oreo mug cake began circulating on tiktok recipes, we were fans of the idea but put off trying it for a bit.
But recently we broke down and decided to see if Oreo Mug Cake actually works. The good news is that it DOES work but timing can be a little tricky to figure out and largely depends on your mug size. See below on our best tips to enjoying an Oreo Mug cake in your kitchen in less than a minute or two.

If you have less Oreo cookies in the pantry cause you ate them all, you can still enjoy this mug cake with less, you just need to get a smaller cup before you halve the recipe. Now this recipe isn’t much of a recipe as an experiment, because all mug sizes are different. Its hard to really mess up if you watch your consistency and make sure its not TOO soupy prior to microwaving.
Here is how we handled this Oreo Mug Cake recipe tutorial from TikTok:

How to make an Oreo Microwave Mug Cake
Place 8 Oreo Cookies in a large coffee mug.
Fill milk up just below half way of the Oreo cookies and use a fork or spoon to mash cookies into a cookie soup.
It should be dark and mushy with the cookies and while liquidy, it should have more cookie than milk. Should be dark gray/light black in color.
Place in microwave for 75 seconds on high. Pull out mug and check, your mug cake may need up to 15-30 seconds before done. Let sit about a minute before eating so it can solidify.
Remember that mug cakes are not the same consistency as a regular oven baked cake and are more dense and “brownie” like in nature.

The white in the center is normal for the Oreo and milk mug cake.

Came out gooey and gross. Maybe it was the almond milk…kept adding 30 seconds and was still gummy. Didn’t use more milk than recipe said.
Any time you alter a recipe from the original ingredients it needs to be tested. In this case, almond milk was not part of the recipe, therefore it could not be assumed it would work without a lot of testing. Almond milk and regular milk have varying water contents and is not a 1 for 1.
