Sweet Potatoes make a Great Side Dish!
Sweet potato casserole is always the star in winter, but year-round sweet potatoes are a fantastic and delicious air fryer side dish idea.
If you have yet to try roasted sweet potatoes in an air fryer, you’re in for a treat! Savory flavors like Italian seasoning, Parmesan cheese, fresh rosemary, or handpicked herbs can elevate your air-fried sweet potatoes to gourmet status.
A perfect companion for meals like chicken breast and steak, play around with other seasonings like a hint of cayenne or chili powder. Or, for those with a sweet tooth, a sprinkle of brown sugar or a drizzle of honey can make all the difference.
Ingredients
- Two sweet potatoes – diced into uniform 1/2 inch cubes
- vegetable oil
- seasoning: kosher salt, garlic powder, paprika, and ground black pepper
- chopped fresh parsley and ranch dressing for serving
———-> Note that you can also use the ninja foodi to pressure cook sweet potatoes too.
How to Roast Sweet Potatoes in the Air Fryer
- Prep the Potatoes: Use a vegetable peeler to strip away the sweet potato skin. Dice the potatoes into uniform 1/2-inch cubes for even cooking.
- Season: Combine sweet potatoes, vegetable oil, and your chosen spices and seasonings in a large mixing bowl. Toss well until each cube is generously coated with seasoning.
- Add to the air fryer or Ninja foodi air crisp basket: Gently arrange the seasoned sweet potato cubes in the air fryer basket, ensuring a single layer without overcrowding. If you’re roasting a large batch, just like working with regular potatoes, remember to air fry in smaller portions for the best results.
- For the Ninja Foodi, select “air crisp.” However, other brand users choose your device’s equivalent setting. Set the temperature to 400 degrees and let the potatoes roast for approximately 12 minutes.
Ninja Foodi Air Fryer Time and Temperature
Air Fry at 400 degrees for 12 minutes for fork-tender results. While this will likely work with your air fryer brand, always watch the first time to ensure that whatever appliance you use doesn’t heat hotter or cooler. Time may have to be adjusted.
Serving Roasted Sweet Potatoes:
Once done, exercise caution while removing sweet potato chunks from the basket. Plate the air fryer sweet potatoes, optionally garnishing them with freshly chopped parsley for a bit of color. Dive in with your choice of sauce – we feel like ranch dip goes with everything.
FAQs
Can I make sweet potato fries over chunks?
Absolutely! Instead of dicing the sweet potatoes, slice them into thin strips, season with salt and simple ingredients, and proceed with air-frying. Refer to our air fryer carrot fries recipe for specific instructions.
How can I store leftover air fried sweet potatoes?
Store any leftover roasted potatoes in an airtight container. Reheat in the microwave for quick heat (will lose the fresh crisp) or in an air fryer to bring it back to a slightly crisp state again. Remember that reheated food is never as good as the first day; therefore, this recipe isn’t really recommended for leftovers.

Ninja Foodi Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients
- 2 sweet potatoes peeled and cut into 1/2" cubes

- ½ tsp. salt
- ½ tsp. garlic powder
- ½ tsp. paprika
- ¼ tsp. ground black pepper
- chopped fresh parsley and ranch dressing for serving
Instructions
- Peel skin from sweet potatoes (a vegetable peeler works great) and cut into 1/2 cubes as evenly as possible. It is important to keep the size of potatoes similar, so some do not overcook or undercook.
- Mix sweet potatoes, vegetable oil, and all seasonings and mix well to coat the potatoes evenly.
- Place seasoned sweet potatoes into the air fryer basket and close the lid.
- Select "air crisp" and 400 degrees for 12 minutes. Please note we use a Ninja Foodi, therefore its set to air crisp. Your air fryer may use different terminology for Air Fry.
- When cooking is complete, carefully remove potatoes from the air fryer basket and serve with chopped fresh parsley and ranch dressing.
