- Romaine lettuce, chopped into 1″ strips
- Grape or cherry tomatoes
- Sliced salami deli meat
- Sliced ham deli meat
- Cheese cubes
How to make Sandwich Kabobs
Prepare the Ingredients:
- Slice the pita bread into 2″ pieces.
- Chop the romaine lettuce into 1″ strips.
- Slice the ham into thirds.
- Cut the salami slices in half.
- Ensure the cheese cubes are about 2″ to avoid breaking when placed on the skewer.
Assemble the Skewers:
- Take a skewer and start by sliding on a piece of pita bread.
- Fold a strip of lettuce in a zigzag pattern and add it to the skewer.
- Add a grape or cherry tomato next.
- Fold a slice of ham in a zigzag pattern and place it on the skewer.
- Follow with a cube of cheese.
- Fold a half slice of salami in a zigzag pattern and add it to the skewer.
- Repeat the layers until the skewer is full, leaving enough space at the end for handling.
Serving Suggestions:
- These skewers can be served immediately or covered and refrigerated until ready to serve.
- For easier serving, consider placing the skewers in a container filled with granulated sugar to keep them upright or simply displaying them on a party platter.
Add mini cups with a side of homemade ranch or cucumber dip as a complementary condiment.
Personal Tips:
When I first made these sandwich skewers for a party, I was worried they’d be dry without the typical sandwich mayo or mustard. I just did not want to add that because some people don’t like it (my brother hates dressing of any kind), and second, I didn’t want to risk the pita getting soggy. Turns out, it was not even needed.
I found myself eating two or three items off the stick at a time. This is def. an easy no-cook finger food idea for all your summer parties and events.
Additional Tips for Perfect Presentation:
- If you prefer longer skewers, that is totally fine. You do not even need to fill them all the way. Slide the items to one end; it’s easier to handle and perfect for presentation. If you want them short, purchase 5-inch skewers or cut the longer ones in half diagonally.
- I highly recommend thicker deli-sliced meat, like from the deli counter, not thinly sliced meat in a pre-made package. Thinly sliced meat won’t work as well on the skewer; it just looks floppy and you may have to fold it over 5 or 6 times to compensate.
- For a sturdy display, I used a recycled soup can (any decorative metal can works) filled with granulated sugar to hold the skewers upright. This method is food-safe, cost-effective, and keeps everything in place. Just make sure to measure the can before deciding on skewer length.
